Global Fairness Initiative and Data world Research Lead Training in Tamale

From April 14th to 17th, 2025, the Global Fairness Initiative and Dataworld Research Limited, with support from DevtPlan Consult, successfully organized a comprehensive Research and Data Collection Training at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, Ghana.

This vital capacity-building initiative was delivered in partnership with the Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP) and the Rural Women Farmers Association of Ghana (RUFAG). The aim was to enhance grassroots capacity for evidence-based programming, advocacy, and decision-making.

Training Objectives and Focus

The four-day training convened participants from a variety of grassroots and community-based organizations, focusing on building essential competencies in:

  • Understanding grassroots data models and their role in community-led research
  • Differentiating between primary and secondary data collection methods
  • Applying appropriate sampling techniques to ensure data reliability and representativeness
  • Practicing ethical standards in data collection and research
  • Developing structured and effective data collection plans

Hands-On Practical Sessions

To reinforce learning, participants engaged in interactive, practical sessions covering:

  • Pilot testing tools before launching full-scale fieldwork
  • Using digital data collection tools, particularly KoboCollect, for efficient and accurate data gathering
  • Facilitating focus group discussions and conducting field piloting
  • Troubleshooting common challenges in field data collection to improve quality and accuracy

Participants and Certification

Organizations represented included Tele-bere, Isrudev, and Maaltaaba, among others each bringing valuable local knowledge and commitment to the process.

At the conclusion of the training, all participants received certificates of completion, recognizing their newly acquired skills and dedication to promoting data-driven development in their respective communities.

This training marks a significant step toward empowering local organizations to influence development outcomes through evidence-based approaches. The organizers remain committed to fostering more collaborative, inclusive, and data-conscious development at the grassroots level.
