The Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP) has successfully held the 5th
Edition of its National Dialogue Series at the CSIR–Forestry Research Institute of Ghana
(FORIG) in Kumasi, bringing together smallholder producers, policymakers, development
partners, financial institutions and private sector actors to advance inclusive and climate-resilient
forest and farm development.
Held under the theme “Empowering Farmers and Communities to Reclaim Our Future,” the
dialogue addressed key constraints facing smallholder forest and farm producers, including
limited access to finance, weak market linkages, climate change impacts and gaps in social
protection.
The event was organised by GhaFFaP in partnership with the Forestry Commission – Climate
Change Directorate and the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF). Participants engaged in panel
discussions, roundtable sessions and breakout groups focused on practical solutions to strengthen
forest and farm producer organisations (FFPOs).
Key discussions emphasised the need to:
Improve access to finance through cooperative mechanisms and partnerships with
financial institutions;
Strengthen market access via aggregation, value addition, and quality standards;
Scale up climate-resilient and sustainable land-use practices;
Enhance social protection and risk-management mechanisms for smallholder producers.
The dialogue also featured an exhibition of value-added forest and farm products,
showcasing innovations by FFPO members, including processed agricultural and non-timber
forest products.
At the end of the dialogue, participants agreed on concrete action points, including
strengthening the GhaFFaP Business Hub, deepening collaboration with financial and market
actors, and advancing smallholder-led climate resilience initiatives aligned with national policies.
The National Dialogue concluded with the adoption of a communiqué and a shared commitment
by stakeholders to support the implementation of agreed actions. GhaFFaP reaffirmed its role as
a platform for inclusive dialogue and collective action towards sustainable livelihoods and
resilient forest and farm systems in Ghana.
