UN Resident Coordinator Visits at Mankraso/Kunsu

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Mr. Zia Choudhury, has paid a visit to a cocoa farm and a greenhouse demonstration site at Mankraso/Kunsu as part of his working tour of farming communities supported under the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) project.

Kokoo Pa Farmers Association, a proud member of the Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP), had the privilege of hosting the UN Resident Coordinator and his team during this important engagement.

The greenhouse, which belongs to Kokoo Pa Farmers Association, serves as a demonstration site where farmers have been trained on sustainable agricultural practices. As part of the project, Kokoo Pa Technical Officer trained farmers on the use of organic fertilizer and the production of vegetables for both consumption and commercial purposes. Supported by FAO through FFF project funding, the facility is equipped with a modern greenhouse, irrigation system, and security system to ensure sustainable production.

Currently, farmers are cultivating vegetables including carrots, peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce. The UN Resident Coordinator expressed his excitement at seeing the progress of the project, noting its potential to diversify income and improve food security. He even tasted some of the freshly harvested lettuce, commending the farmers for their hard work and commitment.

Mr. Choudhury also visited a nearby cocoa farm, where he enjoyed the unique experience of tasting raw cocoa directly from the pod. He praised the farmers’ dedication and underscored the importance of integrating sustainable agroforestry practices in cocoa farming with diversified livelihoods to ensure resilience and long-term benefits for rural households.

The visit highlighted the impact of the FFF project in empowering farmers with skills, resources, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods while contributing to sustainable agriculture in Ghana.
