Strengthening Climate Resilience Among Farmers’ Organizations in Ghana

A two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on Building Resilience II: Climate Proofing
Farmers’ Organisations’ Operations and Planning for Resilience concluded successfully in
Techiman, Ghana on August 27, 2025. The event held from August 26–27 brought together
facilitators, farmer organisation (FO) leaders, and climate adaptation experts to strengthen the
capacity of FOs in addressing climate risks and building long-term resilience.
The training was facilitated by Food and Forest Development ( FFD) in collaboration with
AgriCord as part of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) collaboration with the Ghana
Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP) playing a key organisational role.
The workshop aimed to equip trainers and facilitators with the tools and methodologies needed
to help FOs design comprehensive Climate Resilience Action Plans and Monitoring and
Evaluation (M&E) frameworks.

Over the two days, participants explored key topics such as:
 Assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities at the FO and community level
 Prioritizing adaptation interventions while avoiding maladaptation and biodiversity loss
 Strengthening gender equality and inclusion in climate resilience planning
 Designing effective Climate Resilience Action Plans with measurable outcomes
The training emphasised participatory approaches, ensuring that farmers especially women,
youth and vulnerable groups have a voice in shaping climate adaptation strategies.
By the end of the workshop, participants had developed the knowledge and tools required to help
their organisations plan, implement and monitor climate-smart initiatives that enhance food
security, protect livelihoods and safeguard natural resources.
Speaking at the closing session, facilitator Jenny Öhman commended participants for their
active engagement noting, “This training marks an important step in empowering farmers’
organisations to take ownership of their climate adaptation plans and strengthen their resilience
against future risks.”
The event forms part of the broader AgriCord Building Resilience Toolkit initiative,
implemented under the FFF collaboration with GhaFFaP’s vital support, seeking to enable
farmers’ organisations across Africa to adapt to climate change while promoting sustainable
agricultural practices.
