Madam Alima Sagito Saeed, National President of the Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP), recently led a national dialogue advocating for smallholder farmers. She highlighted GhaFFaP’s work with ministries and agencies like Agriculture and Forestry to support producer organizations and drive policy changes.
This year’s dialogue focused on improving farmers’ access to financial services, resources, land, and markets. Madam Saeed emphasized the importance of increasing production and ensuring farmers can sell at fair prices. The event brought together over 100 stakeholders, including government representatives, businesses, financial institutions, women’s groups, people with disabilities, and researchers. The aim is to develop policies that help farmers grow and contribute to Ghana’s agriculture.
Madam Saeed stressed the urgent need for action on climate change, especially as Ghana faces severe droughts. She called for collective efforts, technology, and knowledge to build climate resilience, noting that farmers using Smart Agriculture practices were better able to cope. The dialogue seeks to close the knowledge gap by ensuring farmers get access to the information they need to adapt.
She also praised the efforts of innovative farmers producing high-quality crops and urged continued government support to ensure food security and income stability. The theme of the 2024 dialogue, held in Bolgatanga, was “Smallholder Producer Organizations: Access to Finance, Market Linkages, and Social Protection as Keys to Achieving Sustainable Climate Resilience and Green Recovery.”
